“A miscarriage is a natural and common event. All told, probably more women have lost a child from this world than haven’t. Most don’t mention it, and they go on from day to day as if it hadn’t happened, so people imagine a woman in this situation never really knew or loved what she had. But ask her sometime: how old would your child be now? And she’ll know.” Barbara Kingsolver

Hi there – and welcome to Little Munchkins! This is a place where we talk about all of those uncomfortable topics that no one else wants to talk about – topics that are taboo and embarrassing. Little Munchkins is a blog and a podcast.

I created Little Munchkins based on a need that I found after going through a bad period in my life. My name is Malene and I started Little Munchkins after suffering three miscarriages on our journey to get pregnant with our second child. I felt very alone and wanted to create a place where we talk about topics to make the conversation as normal and common as miscarriages are.

But as a new parent, I realized that miscarriage is just one of the topics that us women don’t talk about even though we should. We should be talking about trouble around breastfeeding, complications with the birth, the pain associated with childbirth, the emotional rollercoaster of becoming a parent, and postpartum depression. I decided to share my story in my book, We Need To Talk About Miscarriage: My Story of Loss, Grief, Acceptance, and Fertility Treatments, with the hopes of helping another woman who may feel alone after a miscarriage.

But who am I? I’m an entrepreneur and business author, but most importantly, I’m a mom. You won’t see my kids on here – they didn’t ask for this. Instead, you can read about my experiences as a mom, questions from other moms, and much more! Thanks for stopping by and please reach out with your stories!
